"Paul?"
The younger Beatle squeezed his eyes shut tighter, not wanting to be disturbed at this moment. But John kept shaking his shoulder. "Paul? I know you're awake."
Despite this, Paul kept playing dumb. Eventually John sighed and laid back down, pulling him a bit closer. Paul smiled and almost fell back asleep when John asked something that made his eyes fly open.
"Do you love me, Paul?"
Paul sat up, tangled in sheets and blankets. He felt his dark hair, all messed up and spiky. John flicked on the lamp. His light brown mop was the same, and his dark eyes were curious.
"Do I love you?" Paul repeated, stalling. John nodded. "I don't know, it's just....we've kissed, we're a couple, and yet....we've never said, 'I love you', to each other."
Paul blinked his doe-eyes, and John almost smiled. The eyes fit the image perfectly, with the surprised expression of being caught off guard.
"I-I'd have to think about it, John." he said, hesitating. "I mean, it's not something you say to everyone."
John nodded, but he still looked troubled. Paul relaxed and leaned forward. "What else is on your mind, dear?"
John shook his head, looking towards the balcony. "Nothing, babe. Just thinking too much."
Paul swung himself out of bed and walked towards the balcony. He opened the doors and stepped out, leaning his hands against the railing for support. His dark eyes sparkled in the moonlight, and the cool breeze fluffed his hair. Despite the fact he was shirtless and wearing only pyjama bottoms, he wasn't cold.
John followed him out. He stood behind him and curled his hands on Paul's on the railing. "It's a beautiful night."
Paul nodded, staring up at all the stars. He'd always been a bit fascinated by them, even as a child. The bright pins of bursting light in the sky somehow drew him near every time.
John rested his head on Paul's, almost as enticed by the stars as Paul clearly was. He rolled his eyes to the side, catching the moon in his gaze. "You know, there was something else on my mind." he murmured.
Paul leaned back into his chest, suddenly grateful for the warmth as a cold wind shot through. "What's that, love?"
"Do you think we can keep this a secret for a long time?" John murmured. "From the press and what not?"
Paul just shrugged. "I suppose if we try our best, we'll be fine. And if they find out....well, that's who we are. They can't save us from ourselves."
John nodded. "I wonder what me mom thinks of us." Despite the casual tone, a piercing shot of regret and loss stabbed through him at the mention.
Paul was quiet for a minute, but John felt the shiver. He said quietly, "I know me mother wouldn't care, long as I was happy. She'd definitely approve."
John nodded again. "Same. Long as we were both happy, she'd be happy too."
Paul half-smiled at the image of their mothers fawning over them as a couple. But the smile couldn't last long, and his lips puckered at the memory of his mom's face.
John looked at him, concerned. "You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah." Paul said quickly. He wiped away a starting tear. "I'm fine." He looked at John and smiled gently. John smiled back and kissed him softly for a minute.
When he pulled away, both men were back to the happy state they were in before. Paul smiled at him, then stared back up at the stars.
John rested his head on Paul's again. "I always wonder what you're thinking when you look up there and become quiet."
"Mostly about the future, and the universe." Paul answered, still staring up. His voice was hushed, as though they were in a church. "Sometimes about destiny."
John chuckled gently. "Such big thoughts."
"Mm-hmm." Paul started picking out constellations. Libra....Aries....
"What kind of things do you wonder about?" John asked. Paul just blinked and thought for a minute. "I'm not sure. Mostly about true love, and where my place is in the world."
"True love?" John picked out. Paul nodded, purposely keeping a detached interest.
"Interesting." John looked up at the constellations himself, quickly spotting a shooting star amongst many of them. He said a quick prayer. "Paul?"
"Mm-hmm?" Paul asked.
John bit his lip, then said quickly, "I think I love you, Paul."
Paul didn't say a thing, and John was growing more anxious by the second. After a few minutes of John nearly going crazy, Paul murmured, "I love you too, Johnnie."
John's throat nearly clenched, and he choked out, "Really?"
Paul grinned and nodded. John slipped his hands off Paul's, pulling him into a hug. Paul smiled and started to playfully nuzzle John's neck. "Looks like the stars were right tonight." he murmured against the skin.
"What'd the stars say?" John asked, grinning as he leaned his head onto Paul's. Paul stopped nuzzling for a second to say with a chuckle, "The way they're positioned, they said I'd find my true love tonight."
John smiled contentedly while Paul continued nuzzling his neck, kissing now and then. "They were right indeed, love."

You Can't Do That

It was a cold night in Hamburg. The three boys have come back exhausted to their rooms after a gig except for Paul. He sort of disappeared after their gig and they hadn't a clue as to where he went.
Ringo and George collapsed on their beds and quickly fell asleep. John, however, couldn't. He didn't know why but something felt odd. The fact that there was no one sleeping in the bed next to his sort of made him feel uneasy. But why should he care? It's only Paul, right?
John sat upright in bed and laughed to himself, "Why should I be worried about him? He's a big boy. He can take care of himself." John then laid back
